Saturday 19th November 2005, first phase of the Upper St Pats environmental enhancement plan.

A group of 22 members, plus 2 volunteers from the Twyford Preservation Society, spent a long hard and at times very cold day planting 1760 hedging plants and 80 sapling trees along 480 metres of the new Upper St Pats boundary fence. The results look great as I hope you will see from the photos.

They were invaluably supported by 5 volunteers providing bacon rolls mid-morning and a barbeque at lunch time.

In total we have approx. 1100 metres to plant, so we have done a bit less than half, therefore another planting work party (or two) will be required next year.

Jan 31 2005 - TDFC purchase Upper St. Pats and secure long lease on Thames.

The Committee are very pleased to announce the successful completion of negotiations regarding the long term security of two of our key fisheries.

This major development involves the purchase of the freehold of Upper St. Patrick’s Stream and securing of a 21 year lease on the Thames. On the Thames we have had to give up a small length, being the first field (about 8 pegs), starting at Thames Drive. However, we have secured better access rights across the fields to the river.

For Upper St Pats. we have purchased the full length of our current fishery, consisting of the river bed to mid-stream and the (left) bank to a width of approximately 20 metres. Fencing will be installed in due course along the boundary, enabling a more natural environment to develop throughout the majority of the fishery. In addition, the purchased land includes the left side of the car park area at Loddon Drive, which will be fenced to provide ‘off-road’ parking and so deter unauthorised parking and hopefully vandalism.

Members may be aware that both of these fisheries have been used by the club for over 70 years under the ownership of the Edgley family. The Committee wishes to express its sincere thanks to Bryan Edgley, on behalf of all club members, for his tremendous goodwill and determination that the club should continue to enjoy these magnificent fisheries with much greater security for the future.
